Notes
This is an experiment to see whether it's feasible to force the Webflow ECom cart to display in a fixed sidebar fashion.
In my test implementation;
- The cart should be 480px wide on desktop+
- The cart should be 320px wide on tablet
- The button should be hidden
- Mobiles should experience the default behavior of a cart display button, since a sidebar is not possible
Limitations;
- The close button on the cart is difficult to suppress with CSS and will likely need to be deleted with script.
Long form content
This is some longer content just to ensure scrolling for the page and test the sidebar positioning.
The Tale of Jasper the Cheese-Loving Rabbit
In the heart of the lush, green woods where dappled sunlight kissed the earth, there lived a peculiar rabbit named Jasper. Jasper wasn’t peculiar in appearance—he had the same soft fur, twitchy nose, and long ears as any other rabbit. What set Jasper apart was his one-of-a-kind love for cheese.
Most rabbits, as you might know, are quite satisfied with carrots, lettuce, and the occasional clover. But not Jasper. He had discovered his love for cheese quite by accident one sunny spring afternoon.
It all started when Jasper wandered into Farmer McGregor’s barnyard. The enticing smell of something rich and creamy wafted through the air. Following his twitching nose, Jasper found himself face to face with a block of cheddar left out on a wooden table. Curiosity got the better of him, and before long, he took a tentative nibble. It was love at first bite.
From that moment on, Jasper was obsessed. He dreamed of cheese wheels, slices, and crumbs. He learned to distinguish the creamy tang of brie from the sharpness of parmesan. He even figured out how to navigate his way into Farmer McGregor’s pantry, where he could sneak small tastes of Gouda and camembert.
A Plan for Cheese
Jasper’s love for cheese was no secret among the other animals in the forest. While his friends found his tastes odd, they couldn’t help but admire his determination. “You’re a rabbit,” his friend Benny the squirrel would say. “You’re supposed to like nuts and greens.”
“I like those too,” Jasper replied with a twitch of his whiskers, “but have you ever tasted a warm, melted mozzarella? It’s life-changing!”
But getting cheese wasn’t easy. Farmer McGregor’s pantry was heavily guarded by Missy, the tabby cat, who was as fierce as she was clever. Jasper had been caught sneaking around one too many times, and now Missy seemed to have her sharp eyes on him whenever he ventured near the barn.
One day, while nibbling on a dandelion and lamenting his lack of cheese, Jasper had an idea. If he couldn’t get cheese from the farm, he’d make his own! He had no idea how cheese was made, but that didn’t stop him. Jasper hopped around the forest, recruiting help from his friends.
The Cheese-Making Experiment
“Cheese is made from milk,” Jasper explained to Benny the squirrel, Rosie the hedgehog, and Fern the fox. “And cows have milk. So, all we need to do is ask Daisy the cow for some.”
Daisy was happy to help. She provided a bucket of fresh milk, though she couldn’t stop laughing at the sight of Jasper trying to balance the bucket on his head. “I hope you know what you’re doing, Jasper,” Daisy chuckled.
Next, Jasper and his friends needed a place to work. They chose an old hollow tree near the creek, which Jasper dubbed “The Cheese Factory.” Using his paws, Jasper churned the milk as best he could, though he wasn’t quite sure what he was supposed to do next. Fern suggested adding salt, and Rosie thought heating it might help.
Hours passed, and their first attempt at cheese ended in a sticky, soupy mess. “This doesn’t look like cheese,” Benny said, poking at the blob with a stick.
“It’s a work in progress,” Jasper replied, ever the optimist. “We’ll try again tomorrow.”
Jasper’s Cheese Feast
After many experiments, Jasper and his friends finally managed to create something that resembled cheese. It wasn’t perfect—it was crumbly and had an odd flavor—but to Jasper, it was the most delicious thing in the world. He threw a grand cheese feast to celebrate, inviting all the animals in the forest.
At first, the other animals were skeptical. “Cheese? For a rabbit? How strange!” they murmured. But once they tasted Jasper’s creation, their doubts melted away. Benny loved the creamy texture, Rosie couldn’t get enough of the salty tang, and even Fern, who was normally a bit aloof, admitted it was quite tasty.
Word of Jasper’s cheese spread far and wide. Animals from other forests came to taste his creations. Jasper became known as the “Cheese Rabbit,” and his humble hollow tree was soon filled with visitors eager to learn his secret.
A Cheese Legacy
Though Jasper’s love for cheese had once made him an oddity, it became his greatest strength. He continued to experiment, learning to make new kinds of cheese with the help of his friends. He even struck a deal with Farmer McGregor, trading fresh forest berries for cheese-making supplies.
Jasper’s story became a legend among the animals. It wasn’t just a tale of a rabbit who loved cheese—it was a story about following your passions, no matter how unusual they might seem. And in the quiet forest, under the starlit sky, Jasper would often sit with a wheel of his finest cheddar, grateful for the journey that had made his dreams come true.
The end.
